The Balboa Island Museum and Historical Society has an array of videos from our local events. We also have an array of DVD available for viewing on site which can be searched with this link. Buster Keaton is featured in this Newport Beach classic comedy-drama silent film.

Captain January, 1936.

Starring former Balboa Island residents Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen.

Filmed locally with Errol Flynn who was known to frequent “Christian’s Hut.”

To Have and Have Not, 1944.

An American romance-war-adventure film starring Humphrey Bogart, Walter Brennan and Lauren Bacall in her film debut

Reckless Moment, 1949

American film noir melodrama filmed on Balboa Island.

The Breaking Point, 1950

This film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not feature Balboa Island and the ferry.

The Girl Most Likely, 1958

Dotie dreams of marrying a millionaire so that she can live “the life” and visits Balboa Island in some scenes. This film stars  Jane Powell
Cliff Robertson.

1926 Balboa Summer

The White family created this home video that feature views of South Bay Front.  This video was provided to the Balboa Island Museum by Katheryn White, a cousin of the Beek ferry family (2016.06.29).

The History of the Bank of Balboa

Video of grandfather, Dr. Francis Ferry, who built the Bank of Balboa and then financed the building of Newport Harbor Union High School provided digitized version of 35 millimeter film of the building of the bank and personal footage of hydroplane races on the bay in front of the Pavilion. His father, Doug Ferry, is the narrator and and is featured in personal photos. This video was provided by Steve Ferry for our archive (2016.55.3 ).
